On Friday night, a magical 500-drone light show lit up the skies of Sydney, signifying the start of WorldPride.

This display included an array of symbols, with the illuminated drones transforming from a flower to a heart to a diversity shark and finally to a progress pride flag.

It was an awe-inspiring sight that left everyone in Sydney feeling full of love and joy.

At the worldpride Live and Proud opening concert in Sydney’s Domain, people asked if they were allowed to stand and dance.

The question seemed almost conversational, as if it carried symbolic weight representing the long struggle of the LGBTQIA+ community that had started 45 years prior at the city’s first Gay Mardi Gras event where 53 arrests and some police brutality occurred.

Nevertheless, everyone took part in a queer communal act as they danced en masse in celebration.

At the Live and Proud opening concert in Sydney’s Domain, people asked if they were allowed to stand and dance.

In a historic announcement, NSW Arts Minister Ben Franklin declared that Qtopia Museum in Sydney would be allowed to make the former Darlinghurst police station near Oxford Street their permanent home.

The decision marks a striking departure from the government’s earlier stance of resisting lobbying efforts to relocate NSW Health administration functions away from said building and into other areas.

Just a month before the New South Wales (NSW) state election, the eventful day of Mardi Gras saw Equality Australia join together with Mardi Gras and ACON for the launch of their campaign “Act for Equality”.

The campaign urges all NSW parliamentarians to pledge and work towards resolving outstanding LGBTIQ+ human rights issues.

It was a night to be remembered as the crowd expressed their rights of existence and involvement in the LGBTQIA+ community, whilst wearing shimmering golden hot pants.

This marked the start of yet another fun-filled season of self-expression and pride.
