Amaechi Muonagor, another esteemed figure in Nollywood, has come forward seeking help with his ongoing health struggles. Just two weeks after John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, publicly requested prayers and financial support for his own ailment, which has raised concerns about a potential leg amputation, Muonagor is facing a similar situation.
In a video that went viral, the veteran actor appealed to Nigerians for assistance, disclosing that he is dealing with paralysis that has affected half of his left leg.
The 61-year-old actor, lying on a bed in the video, reached out to his fans and colleagues, asking for financial aid. He explained that he hadn’t initially disclosed his illness because he didn’t expect it to last this long.
His words: “I’m sick, this thing that is called stroke caught up with me, and from there they rushed me to the hospital. The first hospital they rushed me to was in Nnewi, where I spent some two months and I was referred to Teaching Hospital Nnewi and here I am.
“I was on a movie set with Emeka Ani, Patience Ozokwo, Rita Edochie, and Ebele Okaro. I was about to enter my car when I was struck with this problem and since then it has been getting worse. Right now, I can’t move, I can’t walk on my own. Half of my left leg is paralyzed, my left hand is not movable, so it is a problem for me.
“I’m calling on well spirited individuals to come to my assistance, to see how they can help me. It is paralysis, half of my body.”
In response to the situation, actor Agbogidi Clemson Cornell pointed out that the recurring health challenges faced by Nollywood actors often stem from a lack of rest and self-care. He explained that due to the demands of the profession, many of his colleagues rarely find the time to rest and address their health concerns.
It’s worth noting that in 2016, there were reports that Amaechi Muonagor was struggling with diabetes. Since then, he hasn’t appeared in any movies, leading to rumors about him leaving the film industry.
