Manchester United are reportedly planning a €50million (£43.1m) bid for PSV star Cody Gakpo once the January transfer window opens.
Man United were close to agreeing a deal to sign PSV star Cody Gakpo in the summer transfer window.
As reported by The Telegraph, the Reds have identified the Dutchman as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Old Trafford following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan last month. Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the club will attempt to sign a forward in the new year.
Gakpo was close to signing for United in the summer transfer window, but the club ultimately opted to sign Antony. However, the Reds are still interested in securing a deal for the 23-year-old, who is understood to want to join the club and work under Ten Hag.
The attacker impressed at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring three times before the Netherlands’ quarter-final defeat to Argentina. He has also scored 13 times and provided 17 assists for PSV so far this season. The report states that United are planning a €50m bid, having valued Gakpo at around €40m last summer.
In a related update, TEAMtalk have reported that United could allow Jadon Sancho to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window, with the Englishman having endured a difficult campaign so far this season.
Sancho, who arrived at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, has failed to nail down a regular starting spot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and now Ten Hag.
It is claimed that the 22-year-old could be permitted to leave on loan in order to regain his confidence, although a move to Chelsea is said to be out of the question.
The attacker missed out on a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for the tournament in Qatar, having registered just three goals in all competitions this term.
