Gunmen kill brother of Osita Iheme, policeman  in Imo

On Friday, unidentified gunmen went on a rampage in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, and shot dead a policeman and another resident named Prince Iheme.

Prince Iheme is the brother of famous Nollywood actor Osita Iheme, commonly known as Pawpaw.

The Gunmen opened fire sporadically in areas of Mbaitoli, Orji and Owerri, even as they warned people to stay indoors to comply with the sit-at-home order issued by a group of Biafra agitators outlawed command.

They also macheted the Imo State Solid Minerals Commissioner, Martin Eke, and left him in a pool of blood.

The gunmen, operating in three vehicles, entered Orji and began attacking residents and passersby, including police officers.

A source said the gunmen met with police at 7up Junction in Orji and shot and killed an officer.

He said, “They killed a policeman. They opened fire on them and shouted “you didn’t hear you should sit at home“. We ask you to go home.`”

Another witness said the gunmen stopped at the Nkwo-Orji market and opened fire sporadically before heading towards Okigwe Road.

In Ubomri, in the state’s Mbaitoli local government area, gunmen attacked the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Mbaitoli / Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Engr. Akarachi Amadi.

The source added: “Prince Iheme was in the car with the Solid Minerals Commissioner, Martin Eke.

Prince Iheme, Pawpaw’s brother, was killed instantly.

The commissioner, who was sworn in two weeks ago, was deeply hurt. He was just taken to the hospital. They’re driving a Ford car.”

Imo State Police spokesman Michael Abattam has yet to respond to questions about the attacks at press time.
