It has been detailed that a doctor, Uyi Iluobe, was shot dead by gunmen while treating a disguised patient at Olivet Clinic on December 29, 2022, in Oghareki, Oghara, local government area of Ethiopia West Delta State.
Our reporter learned that an unidentified patient came to the clinic and saw the doctor, complaining of severe abdominal pain.
The incident sparked a state-wide outcry, with members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) threatening to stop to shut down activities in hospitals.
The initial narrative surrounding the murder was that the patient’s relatives had come to commit the despicable act.
But Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, in a brief statement said “the rumor making rounds that the medical doctor was murdered by the family of the patient who died in the hospital is not true
“There is no record of any patient dying at the hospital, however, we are investigating to find out why he was murdered and also to track down the suspects.”
Falling off guard against the grisly murder, Governor of Delta and Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, lamented the horrific murder of Dr. Uyi Iluobe at a hospital in the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, the governor said the attackers’ actions were not only barbaric but reprehensible.
He has instructed the security services to intensify their investigation into this despicable act and not leave any obstacles to the pursuit of his attackers and bring them to justice.
Okowa said the killing of Doctor Uyi Iluobe was unjust and gratuitous, adding that it was an act of agents against peace and progress in the state, and should be reprimanded by all good-natured Deltas.
He sympathized with the families of the deceased and urged state residents to stay vigilant and report any criminal activity to security services.
The governor warned criminals to leave the state, saying that any offenses would be tracked down, cleared up and prosecuted.
